HEALTH BENEFITS OF APPLES

Thanks to fiber, vitamins and antioxidant molecules that it contains, as is known even in popular wisdom that summarizes everything in the famous motto “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. And it is not just a popular proverb, but a reality, as we can see from the most important benefits that come with this fruit.

It serves to eliminate waste

The apple is rich in water (80%) and fiber (13%), which help our body to eliminate waste through the intestines. It also stimulates diuresis and also through this physiological process contributes to better detoxification of the body. This is why apple juice is often used in slimming diets. A common apple weighs 242 grams and provides 126 calories: a very good ratio to use it as a snack when famine attacks arrive during the periods in which we are trying to lose weight.

Aids digestion

This fruit also helps to protect the stomach (thanks to pectin, which provides a real protective patina on its walls when it is irritated, and it is a sort of fertilizer for the intestinal flora); it also defends the intestine and purifies the blood. The content of fats in apple is almost totally absent in this fruit, while vitamins B1-B2, A and C are well present, making it an easily digestible food, to be included in the diet of children and elderly people. In a study published in PLoS medicine, researchers have come to the conclusion that, thanks to the fiber contained in them, apples slow down digestion, help to feel full and over time reduce weight gain. In short: an apple a day before the doctor removes pounds out of the way. Also for children.

It cures diarrhea and contrasts constipation

The apple is indicated in cases of gastroenteritis and diarrhea and, compared to other fruits, does not ferment in the intestine, so you can also eat it at the end of the meal. Apple is a real and proper sweet laxative, because it helps the bowel gently, with a refreshing and protective effect for mucous membranes. For example, for those who suffer from constipation, cooked apple is an excellent remedy.

Lowers Cholesterol

Another substance in which apple is very rich is quercetin, a flavonoid with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. A research of the English University of Reading and of the Trentino Edmund Mach Foundation, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, show that two apples a day lower hypercholesterolemia by 4 percent. The same goes for triglycerides.

The importance of the peel

Never as in the case of apples, the advice is to eat the fruit with the whole peel, obviously well washed under running water. Another molecule of extreme importance possessed by apples, fisetin, is concentrated in the peel.

A tonic for the nervous system

This quality of tonic for the nervous system and muscular system comes from a fundamental characteristic: apple is very rich in potassium.

Rejuvenates the skin.

Apple is also an ally for beauty and skincare, it acts as a tonic for the lymphatic system and stimulates the cellular renewal of epidermal tissue. Thanks to vitamins and mineral salts that have restructuring, nourishing and anti-aging properties, apple extracts help to regenerate the epidermis, making it immediately shiny.

Purifies and disinfects the tissues

Vitamin C, present in this fruit, protects the blood microcirculation and is essential for the formation of collagen, the “cement of the connective tissue, present in the deepest layer of the skin. The acids, instead, exert a mildly anti-inflammatory, purifying and protective action.

Counteracts acne

Very used is also apple vinegar, which is obtained from the fermentation of fruits and is rich in oligo-elements with toning power. Vinegar derived from the fermentation of apples has a truly beneficial effect on the skin condition known as acne, as two tablespoons of this “nectar” (which should always be diluted with water) are enough to eliminate the skin infection and related symptoms, such as inflammation and swelling that occur on the face.
